Popular Questions

Got a question? You might find the answer here...

  • How do I apply to RSPA?

The application process is quick and easy. Begin by creating an account. Then complete the step-by-step application. You will be notified as to whether your application has been accepted. When you receive an offer, submit the required student information online or by mail to complete the registration process for your student.

  • What is a Charter School?

Charter schools are independently operated public schools that are open to all Houston residents, regardless of their neighborhood, socioeconomic status, academic achievement, or ethnicity. There are no admission tests or tuition fees. We bill each enrolled student’s school district for funding as established by state law.

  • Does my child get a preference if their sibling attends the school?

Yes. We give priority to applications from families that already have a sibling in attendance at RSPA, to children who live within the neighborhood or district boundary, to the children of parents who work at the school, and to the children of Board Members.

  • What if the lottery application deadline has already passed?

RSPA also accepts applications outside our open enrollment period (December 15-March 22). We admit new students on a first-come, first-served basis after the waiting list generated by the lottery has been exhausted.

  • What is the process after being waitlisted?

Families applying after the lottery are placed on a waitlist and will receive an email with their waitlist number. Parents can also log in to their SchoolMint account to see their waitlist number. Seats may become available at any time depending on the grade level, so be sure to check your email each week for an offer letter!

  • Are the teachers certified?

Yes. We are required to abide by the teacher certification laws of the Texas Department of Education that apply to charter schools. Our teachers are considered state public school employees.

  • Is transportation provided?

RSPA provides limited transportation. Please check with the office to find out if transportation is available to your residence.

  • Is there a dress code at RSPA?

Yes. Students must be in the school uniform Monday through Thursday. Fridays, students should wear their official RSPA T-shirts with blue jeans or uniform pants/shorts. There is a sense of pride and tradition in being readily identified with our school. A standard code of appearance will be in force for all students, thereby creating a structured, controlled atmosphere conducive to learning. We ask parents and visitors to our campus to wear appropriate clothing as well.

  • What is SchoolMint?

SchoolMint is an online enrollment and communication platform working with public, charters, and private schools to make the enrollment process for parents easier and faster.

SchoolMint offers different options, so parents can apply and register with a computer or mobile device. They can upload student documents, check application status, and even select the method in which they prefer to receive the school’s communications - by email or text.

RSPA utilizes this enrollment software to ensure security and timely response to your student’s acceptance.
